Bundesliga at the Euros, Day 9
Matchday 2 of the group stage has concluded today and we are gearing up for group matches to play at the same time. Die Mannschaft played their 2nd game of the groups vs Portugal, sandwiched between Hungary vs France and Spain vs Poland. Here is the lowdown of day 9.
France falter in Budapest
The World Champions entered an intimidating atmosphere in the Puskas Arena and the French were given a right good game as they could only draw 1-1 with the home side Hungary. The whole stadium erupted with joy when Atilla Fiola went on a run and found the bottom corner of Hugo Lloris' net and gave Hungary the lead right on the stroke of half-time. But France should've been at least level, if not leading, as they spurned many a chance through Karim Benzema, Kylian Mbappe, and Antoine Griezmann. But France eventually go their act together, as a misjudgment of the flight of the ball from the Hungarian center-backs allowed Kylian Mbappe in behind to then cut it back for Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann to fire home past RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi. The Leipzig duo of Gulacsi and center-back Willi Orban were rock solid preventing the French forwards from getting goals and they were rewarded at the full-time whistle when the scoreline read Hungary 1-1 France.

Lewandowski off the mark as Poland stay alive
The world's most in-form striker coming into the Euros finally got off the mark for EURO 2020, as Robert Lewandowski got the equalizing goal for Poland against Spain to keep their EURO 2020 hopes alive. The Bayern Munich hitman rose highest from a Kamil Jozwiak cross and nodded into the bottom corner in typical Lewandowski fashion. Spain went ahead before the break after a VAR check confirmed that Alvaro Morata was onside when taking his finish into the bottom corner, but Spain had the chance to go ahead again just 3 minutes after the Lewandowski leveller when VAR awarded Spain a penalty as Jakub Moder was adjudged to have fouled Gerard Moreno in the area. Moreno himself took it but hit the post and Morata missed the rebound when it looked harder to miss than score. The point leaves Poland still in with a chance of making it to the round of 16 with group E being finely poised. Poland take on Sweden in St. Petersburg and Spain welcome Slovakia to Seville to finalize the group standings.
