Fantasy Bundesliga tips: Midfielders to consider for the start of the 2021/22 season

Here are the midfielders you should consider when picking your Fantasy Bundesliga team for the start of the 2021/22 season.
With the new Bundesliga season just around the corner, we are ready to give you a helping hand with your Fantasy Bundesliga team.

In this article, we take a look at the midfielders you should have on your radar when you put together your squad.

You should be aware that there will be an unlimited transfer period during the first international break between 30 August and 11 September, meaning you only have to plan ahead to Matchday 3 when picking your initial squad.

Budget options:
Jan Thielmann (FC Köln, 4M)
Despite being listed as a midfielder in the game, Thielmann is expected to start up front alongside Anthony Modeste. With a price of just 4 million, you can't really go wrong with the 19-year-old, who registered two goals and four assists in a total of 27 games for Köln last season.

Fredrik Jensen (Augsburg, 4M)
After spending most of last season on the sidelines due to various injuries, Jensen is back to full fitness. Jensen made a positive impression on the wing as he started and scored in Augsburg's 4-2 victory over Greifswalder FC in the DFB-Pokal last week, and the 23-year-old should have a good chance of keeping his starting spot for Augsburg's Bundesliga opener against Hoffenheim, with Daniel Caligiuri unlikely to be fit enough to start.

Julian Green (Greuther Fürth, 6M)
If there is one player you want from newly-promoted Greuther Fürth, it's arguably Julian Green. Coming off the back of a 2020/21 campaign that saw him rack up nine goals and two assists in 30 games in the 2. Bundesliga, the 26-year-old is the focal point of his team's midfield.

Mid-range options:
Mateo Klimowicz (Stuttgart, 7M)
Klimowicz only managed to find the net once last season despite registering an xG of 3.16. There seems no doubt that the 21-year-old will only get better with time, and he should head into Stuttgart's Bundesliga opener against Greuther Fürth with plenty of confidence after getting on the scoresheet in Stuttgart's 6-0 thrashing of BFC Dynamo in the DFB-Pokal.

Jean-Paul Boëtius (Mainz, 7M)
After scoring two goals and making five assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances last season, Boëtius should be nailed on to start in attacking midfield for a Mainz side, who looked very impressive after Bo Svensson took the reins in January. 'Die Nullfünfer' have a difficult opening fixture against RB Leipzig, but will then face newly-relegated Bochum and Greuther Fürth before the international break.

Christoph Baumgartner (Hoffenheim, 11M)
Baumgartner's consistently good performances for Hoffenheim over the last seasons have seen him linked with various top clubs, but the 22-year-old has insisted he isn't looking to leave at the moment. Last season, he registered a total of 16 goal involvements in 41 games for 'Die Kraichgauer' in all competitions – not a bad return for a player, who doesn't even seem to have reached his peak yet.

Premium options:
Leon Goretzka (FC Bayern, 14M)
Playing in a box-to-box role for the German champions, Goretzka will certainly pick up plenty of points over the course of the season – especially if he has more luck with injuries than last season.

Filip Kostic (Frankfurt, 14M)
With 318 points to his name, Kostic was the highest-scoring Fantasy Bundesliga midfielder last season. A nice chunk of Kostic's Fantasy points came through assists for André Silva, who has moved to Leipzig, but the 28-year-old Serbian international will surely find other targets.

Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig, 14M)
Nkunku picked up a total of 269 points last season, meaning he was the fourth most productive Fantasy Bundesliga midfielder. The 23-year-old winger has looked sharp in pre-season and most recently scored and set up a goal as Leipzig cruised to a 4-0 victory over SV Sandhausen in the DFB-Pokal.
