FC Augsburg remain only two points adrift of the relegation zone after a 4-0 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday. Manuel Baum showed his frustration after the end of the game.
“We wanted to stay compact and hold firm,” said the interim coach. “But, through poor decision-making, we lost control of the game. Even though we grew into the match a little more in the second half, both our defending and attacking play were not good enough today. We need to be doing the fundamental parts of the game well to win matches.”
Keven Schlotterbeck, who is taking over the captain’s armband from the injured Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, shared his coach’s sentiment. “We deserved to get nothing out of that game. We have to do better in our next game in four days.”
Augsburg will host Union Berlin in the closing fixture of matchday 17 on Thursday. Their last three league wins all came at the WWK Arena.
