After a small delay due to personal reasons, Wendell finally moves to FC Porto. The left back leaves Bayer Leverkusen after 7 years at the club.

His development had hit a bit of a slump in the past few seasons, but he was an important figure in the Werkself dressing room, and a popular figure for the fans as well.

The factory club have reportedly pocketed a figure between €4 and €5 million as a result of the smart move to extend Wendell's contract by 1 year last summer.

Instead of watching Wendell leave for free, the club have now received additional funds that can be invested elsewhere in the squad since Mitchel Bakker had already been secured as the new left back.
