In a true rollercoaster encounter, Bayern Munich edged past Real Madrid 4-3 to reach the Champions League semi-finals at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, progressing 6-4 on aggregate.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany praised his side for their resilience and fighting spirit throughout the match.

“It was a very emotional game. We had lots of possession and always had the feeling we could score. But Real Madrid are Real Madrid. They are always a threat," Kompany told DAZN after the game.

Bayern found themselves trailing 0–1, 1–2, and 2–3, but kept fighting back before ultimately sealing a 4-3 victory.

“The boys were mentally strong today to recover from setbacks. The fans helped us as well. We stayed calm and always felt that our moment would come. You earn these moments over the course of the season by working for them repeatedly,” said Kompany.

"What was important for me was that the players deserved to go out there today without fear. You can’t just say that, you also have to show it. And they did that. Whether we win or lose – in the end it often comes down to small details. What mattered to me was that after the match we weren’t standing there asking ourselves: what was that today? But instead that we gave everything.”
