VfL Wolfsburg and Lukas Nmecha are expected to part company when the striker's contract expires at the end of the season.

That's according to Kicker, who cites Nmecha's persistent injury problems as the reason why Die Wölfe are unlikely to renew his contract.

"Generally speaking, players have to be able to cope with the strain. So it's also about him showing us that he's fit enough to take part in every training session, to play games and to fight for a starting place," said managing director for sport Peter Christiansen in January.

After fighting his way back from a hamstring injury, the 26-year-old recently suffered another setback.

Nmecha has scored two goals in 12 appearances for Wolfsburg this season. He joined the club from Manchester City in 2021 for a fee of €8 million.
