VfL Wolfsburg will be without one of their key attacking players when they face St. Pauli on Saturday in a crucial match in their bid to stay in the Bundesliga.

As head coach Dieter Hecking confirmed on Thursday, Patrick Wimmer will miss the game.

However, the Austrian international should be available for the relegation play-offs, should 16th-placed Wolfsburg hold their position ahead of Heidenheim and St. Pauli at the bottom of the table.

“He will not be able to play on Saturday. We hope he can make it back in time for a possible relegation play-off. And things are actually looking quite good for that,” Hecking said.

Mattias Svanberg or Lovro Majer are likely to replace Wimmer in midfield on Saturday.
