Lennart Karl was included in the first of two Germany squads announced by new head coach Jürgen Klopp on Thursday ahead of the four upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.

Speaking about the 18-year-old Bayern Munich youngster at a press conference, Klopp praised his ability, mentality and personality.

“When I saw Lennart in person for the first time and shook his hand, I realised: the lad is ready,” Klopp said.

“He’s a real powerhouse and very confident, and he has a very pleasant manner. He’s also cheeky, which I like.”

Karl already made his breakthrough into the senior national team under Klopp’s predecessor, Julian Nagelsmann, but then picked up an injury shortly before the World Cup.

“He had some outstanding moments before his injury. It was a really unfortunate time for him to get injured,” Klopp said.
