After reports emerged on Friday claiming that Borussia Dortmund have withdrawn from the race to sign Said El Mala from 1. FC Köln, Lars Ricken has now confirmed that the deal is indeed off.

BVB’s managing director for sport told Funke Sport:

“Said El Mala is not a Borussia Dortmund player and he will not become one this summer either.

“We have held open discussions with the officials at 1. FC Köln over the past few days, but they rejected our latest offer.

“Borussia Dortmund will not make another offer and will no longer pursue a transfer for the player,” Ricken added.

The Black and Yellows will now turn their attention to alternative targets as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
