Mike Büskens may soon make his return to active coaching, according to information from a source close to RevierSport.

The 57-year-old is a "hot candidate" to succeed Benedetto Muzzicato at 3.Liga side Alemannia Aachen, who was dismissed two weeks ago.

Interim coach Ilyas Trenz may be the solution with two wins in two games, but the 28-year-old does not have the coaching license required for the third division.

Büskens most recently worked as assistant coach and technical staff member for Schalke 04 until the summer of 2024.

Prior to that, the club legend had led the Royal Blues to promotion to the Bundesliga on an interim basis in the 2021/22 season with a furious final sprint.

In Germany, Büskens worked as a coach for Greuther Fürth and Fortuna Düsseldorf. He knows Aachen's managing director, Rachid Azzouzi, from their time together at Fürth.
