The USMNT coach feels the English marksman deserves to be rewarded for his strong season, no different to the way Luka Modric and Karim Benzema were.

USA national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino believes Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane deserves to win the Ballon d'Or.

“My wish, I hope yes. I think he deserves it as the reward for his career and for all what he has done in football," Pochettino told Sky Sports.

"I don't know if he is going to be punished for the World Cup or the Champions League because he played in both semi finals.

"Maybe he will be punished, I don't know, but, for me, it's Harry Kane's time. I think he deserves it.

“He deserves it in his career like Modrić, Cannavaro or Benzema. I think if I pick one, then it's Harry Kane,” the 54-year-old added.

Pochettino himself coached Kane in 242 games across all competitions during the duo's time together at Tottenham Hotspur.
