Stuttgart reserves earn promotion to the 3. Liga

In the "long-distance derby" for the Regionalliga Südwest title, the VfB Stuttgart reserves have come out on top over their city rivals from Degerloch.

Allowed to retain their best players by VfB Stuttgart trainer Sebastian Hoeneß on the season's final match-day, VfB Stuttgart II have captured the Regionalliga Südwest championship and earned promotion to German football's lowest fully professional footballing tier. The Cannstatt reserves beat TSG 1899 Hoffenheim II 2-0 in "home match" moved to Reutlingen on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Dejan Galjen and Laurin Ulrich proved sufficient to deliver a shutout victory for the VfB reserves. Over to the west in Saarland, Degerloch's Stuttgarter Kickers dropped their season-finale 0-3 to FC 08 Homburg. VfB II join the Hannover 96 reserves (Nord), Alemannia Aachen (West), and the Würzberger Kickers (Bayern) as Regionalliga champions.

Who shall capture the Regionalliga Nordost crown will come down to the final match-day tomorrow. Former Bundesligsts Energie Cottbus maintain a three-point-advantage over Greifswalder FC entering the final round, yet trail the second-placed-side in goal differential. Cottbus face the Hertha reserves while Greifswald host Meuselwitz.
