Süle in great shape for start of Dortmund pre-season, Sport Bild reports

Sport Bild reports that Niklas Süle has used his vacation time to get in great shape and has lost eight kilos.

Over the years, Niklas Süle has been criticized for not being in the physical condition expected of a professional footballer, most recently in the build-up to Borussia Dortmund's Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

However, it appears that the 28-year-old central defender has fought his way back into shape, with Sport Bild reporting that he has been working on improving his fitness over the holidays.

The report claims that Süle will arrive at the start of Borussia Dortmund's pre-season preparations on Wednesday eight kilos lighter, meaning he's close to his ideal weight.

The switch from Edin Terzic to Nuri Sahin is said to have given the defender new motivation, with the 28-year-old hoping that the new coach will “focus more on him”.

Süle joined Dortmund on a free transfer from Bayern Munich in 2022. He was mostly used as a substitute last season, with Nico Schlotterbeck and Mats Hummels the preferred partnership of Edin Terzic.

Hummels has now left the club, but Süle has new competition in the form of Waldemar Anton, who joined from Stuttgart.
