After an enthralling DFB-Pokal semi-final win over SC Freiburg which required extra-time, VfB Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav could breathe a sigh of relief after Tiago Tomas' winner.
“I’m delighted that Tiago Tomas scored that goal at the end [of extra-time]. It was a really tough game, we had to fight hard. Now we face Bayern in the final.
“They’ve beaten us three times this season, but we hope we have a better day this time. Anything is possible in a knockout game,” he explained.
Midfield conductor Angelo Stiller described it as a “dramatic match” in the mixed zone afterwards. He took praised their desire and togetherness to stay in the fight.
"We had enough chances to kill the game off earlier, but that just made it all the better when we scored the winner just before the final whistle. We’ve deserved this moment.
"One of our team’s strengths was staying so composed in such an intense match. We deserve to be going to Berlin. We’ll be facing Bayern and will need a top-class performance,” he added.
Stuttgart will now face Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal final which is scheduled for Saturday, 23 May, and Sebastian Hoeneß' side will be eager to defend their crown.
