Following relegation from the Bundesliga on Monday evening, VfL Wolfsburg are looking to make a big-name transfer - attempting to acquire Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva.

Kicker reports that the club has approached the 41-year-old, looking to sign him on a free transfer just days after he won the Liga Portugal title with FC Porto. Other teams interested are two of his former clubs that he won trophies with - AC Milan and Chelsea FC. The latter side wants to bring him to Stamford Bridge in a coaching role, as he is currently completing his UEFA A License education in Scotland.

If Silva signs in Wolfsburg, he would likely be a starter in the rebuild - bringing significant experience to the side. However, it is currently unknown if this discussion will advance past the first stage.

Silva played eight matches for FC Porto in the second half of their 2025/26 Liga Portugal title campaign, finishing without a goal or assist. A veteran of the Brazilian national team, Silva played 113 matches in the Seleção uniform, scoring on seven occasions.

Silva's market value is currently €600,000.
