Report: Wolfsburg interested in signing Schalke's starting keeper

The local Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung reports that Germany's green company team are looking to sign FC Schalke 04 keeper Marius Müller.

VfL Wolfsburg will find themselves in need for another net-minder to fill their roster following Koen Casteels' departure this summer. Veteran Pavao Pervan (recently signed to a contract extension) is expected to compete with the newly-signed Kamil Grabara for the #1 spot. The local Wolfsburger Allgemein Zeitung now reports that die Wölfe wish to add current FC Schalke 04 goalkeeper Marius Müller to the mix.

Müller has done a very good job for die Königsblauen this season and presently retains the highest cumulative 2. Bundesliga match grades as assessed by Germany's Kicker Magazine. Müller has earned the bulk of the starts in the Schalke 04 net, playing 18 matches to Ralf Fährmann's nine and Michael Langerer's three. Müller maintains an estimated market worth of €500,000 and sits on a contract that expires next year.

The German Wolves should have no real issue procuring the 30-year-old if the player himself is prepared to accept a back-up role. This, however, is by no means a foregone conclusion. Müller has indicated in some of his recent public statements that he does feel a sense of obligation to the Westphalians. Müller did spend two seasons at RB Leipzig, but has not made an appearance at Bundesliga level yet.
