Jhon Arias’ early strike sends Colombia to the Round of 16 at Ghana’s expense. Los Cafeteros were thoroughly dominant in the game, while the Black Stars rarely threatened to create chances despite the narrow scoreline.

FC Bayern’s sensation Luis Diaz saw his second-half strike annulled for yet another offside call spotted by VAR in the tournament. Lawrence Ati-Zigi denied him from point-blank range a couple of minutes later. The 29-year-old also created several clear-cut opportunities for his teammates, like the group stage fixtures.

Ex-Bundesliga striker Jhon Córdoba went off injured inside the first ten minutes, while the captain James Rodríguez only played the first-half as well. Colombia have only conceded a goal in their opening fixture against Uzbekistan, although they did also struggle for goals since the 3-1 victory.

Néstor Lorenzo became the fourth Argentine coach to qualify his team for the Round of 16. Colombia will face Switzerland in the final game of the next round after clinching their first knockout-stage victory since 2014.
