Fortuna Düsseldorf recorded a massive victory against Bochum in their fight to avoid relegation. The hosts extended their unbeaten home record to five games, with the goalless draw against Preußen Münster from a fortnight ago the only one they didn’t manage to win in their streak.

Meanwhile, Uwe Rösler saw his side’s ten-game unbeaten record come to an end at his former club’s ground. There is only a single point between the two teams after Düsseldorf completed the double over Bochum.

Valgeir Lunddal’s injury meant Markus Anfang was forced to an early substitution once again. Like last week’s performance by Marcel Schuhen in Darmstadt goal, Tim Horn was also equally impressive for Bochum before conceding the opening goal on the stroke of half-time.

Cedric Itten scored his tenth goal of the season with a brilliant header from Emmanuel Iyoha's delivery. The three points seemed a formality when first-half substitute Florent Muslija found the net with a beautiful curler from outside the box in the 57th minute.

However, Bochum found their rhythm with a linkup between substitutes Oliver Olsen and Farid Alfa-Ruprecht reducing the deficit. Half-time substitute Francis Onyeka had the best chance to equalize with the last meaningful action of the game, but his header missed the target.
