Newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are heavy favorites to win Saturday's DFB-Pokal final against 2. Bundesliga side Kaiserslautern.

That's clear to Kaiserslautern coach Friedhelm Funkel, but as he points out, anything can happen in football.

"We know that we have a very small chance as underdogs," Funkel told SID.

He added that if Kaiserslautern were to face Leverkusen 100 times, they would win "once".

"And hopefully that's what will happen on Saturday."

As a player, Funkel was part of the Bayer Uerdingen team that pulled off a major upset in the 1985 DFB-Pokal final, beating Bayern Munich 2-1.

"We didn't stand a chance, but we still won the cup. Maybe history will repeat itself," said the 70-year-old.

“We will do everything we can to make the impossible possible. We want to be a difficult opponent.”
