Reports that VfL Wolfsburg center back Maxence Lacroix has agreed to work under former trainer Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace may yet prove totally unfounded; at least if current VfL trainer Ralph Hasenhüttl is to be believed.
Speaking at a fan-talk on Sunday, Hasenhüttl confirmed that the 24-year-old will don the captain's armband in tomorrow's opening round cup tie against fifth-tier side TuS Koblenz.
Regular skipper Maximilian Arnold is unavailable due to a viral infection. Lacroix has been elevated to the team leadership council by Hasenhütll following the departure of long-time keeper Koen Casteels this summer.
"He is a player who has taken on a leading role in the team," Hasenhüttl noted in explaining his choice, "He is someone who opens his mouth and looks out for his teammates. I know that he will stay."
