Effenberg and Hamann criticize Bayern bosses: 'They are not how they used to be'

It's not just on the pitch that Bayern München have been beside themselves this season according to Stefan Effenberg and Dietmar Hamann.

The former Bayern München players Stefan Effenberg and Dietmar Hamann have criticized the club's way of handling this season's crisis.

Back in October, Bayern president Uli Hoeness, CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic held a controversial press conference at which they blasted the media for being unfair in their criticism of the club - and that's where it really started to go wrong, says Hamann.

"The press conference was the mother of evil. It has changed the journalistic landscape. They were torn apart by the media - and righty so. Then you need sit quietly in a room, take a look in the mirror and reflect," Hamann told Sky and added:

"Rowing back would be the only way not to lose face. But in the inner core, they are certain that they did the right thing - and that scares me".

Stefan Effenberg believes Bayern president Uli Hoeness has taken a couple of 'low blows' that have only made life more difficult for the club.

At the press conference, Uli Hoeness launched a surprising attack on the former Bayern player Juan Bernat.

Additionally, the Bayern president has recently fallen out with club legend Paul Breitner and thus banned him from the VIP stand at the Allianz Arena.

"They have made mistakes in a difficult sporting situation. They are not how they used to be - confident, self-assured. They feel that there is a lot of headwind, and they get personal and take low blows - as with Breitner and Bernat. That doesn't do anything good for a club that is in a difficult sporting situation," Effenberg said.

Last week, Bayern's results gave the club bosses a much-needed reason to smile. The Bavarians beat Benfica 5-1 in midweek before winning 2-1 over Werder Bremen on Saturday.
