Even with the difficult summer losses of Anthony Modeste and Salih Özcan, trainer Steffen Baumgart is again steadying the ship with another competition to juggle. Köln lead their Europa Conference League group and sit a respectable 9th in the Bundesliga table with 10 points through Matchday 7.

When 'kicker' asked if anything could be going better for the Billy Goats, Baumgart said, "Nothing at all. It's going exactly the way we want it to. And if someone comes and wants to explain to us what we could have done better, they're more than welcome to take over my job."

The 50-year-old is still his usual old-school self, complaining how clubs are "rewarded" for poor play in UEFA's competitions:

"Today you're third in your Champions League group and you go to the Europa League and whoever comes third goes to the Conference League. You're kicked out of one competition and you get the red carpet laid out for the next one. I think that's a little much."

Baumgart added that he always stick up for his players and doesn't allow anyone to, "attack my family. I'm the first to criticize. But I'm also the only one who's allowed to criticize them. These are my boys, I mean it like I say it."
