Bundesliga Team of the Week – Matchday 1

The 2026/27 Bundesliga season finally got underway at the weekend, with the nine Matchday 1 fixtures delivering plenty of action and entertainment.

Below is Bulinews Editor-in-Chief Rune Gjerulff's Bundesliga Team of the Week, highlighting the standout performers from the opening round.

Goalkeeper:

Nahuel Noll, Paderborn

Noll played a key role in Paderborn keeping a clean sheet in their 0-0 away draw with Mainz, making four important saves for the newly-promoted outfit.

Defenders:

Ridle Baku, RB Leipzig

A very solid performance from the right-back, who got on the scoresheet and won five ground duels in RB Leipzig's 3-0 win over Gladbach.

Castello Lukeba, RB Leipzig

With 11 clearances, two blocks and four ball recoveries, Lukeba played a key role in keeping Gladbach's chances to a minimum with a rock-solid performance at the back. He also maintained an impressive 89 percent pass completion rate.

Dayot Upamecano, FC Bayern

Upamecano got on the scoresheet and won an impressive nine duels as Bayern thrashed Stuttgart 5-1 in their Bundesliga opener.

Alphonso Davies, FC Bayern

Given the nod over Josip Stanisic at left-back, Davies impressed by winning four of his five duels and providing an assist.
 

Midfielders:

Joshua Kimmich, FC Bayern

Pulling the strings in midfield, the Germany captain registered two assists and won five duels in Bayern's emphatic victory over Stuttgart.

Yuito Suzuki, SC Freiburg

One of the standout performers on Matchday 1, Suzuki was one of two players to score a hat-trick as he inspired Freiburg to a 4-1 victory over Werder Bremen.

Michael Olise, FC Bayern

Impossible to contain, Olise hit the bar with a free-kick before finding the net and later had another goal ruled out for being just a tad offside.

Anton Kade, FC Augsburg

One of the architects behind Augsburg's 3-0 win over Schalke 04, Kade provided a superb assist before getting on the scoresheet himself.

Lukas Petkov, Elversberg

Petkov played a key role in Elversberg's sensational 3-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, racking up a goal and an assist.
 

Strikers:

Younes Ebnoutalib, Eintracht Frankfurt

Ebnoutalib scored an impressive hat-trick for Eintracht Frankfurt, but unfortunately it wasn't enough for Die Adler, who had to settle for a 3-3 draw with Union Berlin after throwing away a two-goal lead.
