"We didn't manage to trouble them" – Vincenzo Grifo on Freiburg's Europa League final defeat to Aston Villa

SC Freiburg’s dream of lifting the Europa League trophy came to a painful end on Wednesday night, as the Bundesliga side suffered a 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the final in Istanbul.

Speaking to RTL after the game, Freiburg winger Vincenzo Grifo acknowledged that Aston Villa deserved to come out on top.

“You have to honestly admit that Aston Villa were the better team," Grifo said, adding: 

"Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to trouble them today. They were very clinical and very experienced in everything they did. 

"We never really managed to put them under pressure and, because of that, I think it was a deserved win for Aston Villa.”
