Frankfurt complete comeback rout of 9-man Hoffenheim
On their 125th anniversary, Dino Toppmöller's Frankfurt came from behind to defeat in-form Hoffenheim this afternoon on a 3-1 scoreline. Matarazzo's visitors received two red cards to add to their woes.
This game got off to a blistering start inside six minutes as Hoffenheim forged an early lead. Anton Stach served up an inch perfect corner where John Anthony Brooks held of Koch to thump his header past Trapp. But the early hero turned villain in the 22nd minute - the centre-half wiped out Marmoush as he went through on goal. Arbiter Bastian Dankert brandishing the red card instantly.
Die Adler had been pushing hard for parity prior to the man advantage, but the pressure increased tenfold afterwards. Chances fell to Larsson, Dina-Ebimbe, and Chaïbi but TSG remained firm until the 32nd minute. Nkounkou found Marmoush who unselfishly teed up Koch. The defender casually rolled the ball past Baumann.
It took all of five minutes for Die Adler to complete the comeback in the second-half. An undercooked Kramarić pass was pounced on by Marmoush. The Egyptian fed Mario Götze and picked out Dina-Ebimbe who glanced his header to the left corner. Toppmöller's charges put the game beyond doubt at 3-1 in the 64th minute. Impact sub Knauff cut the ball back for Götze to guide home in acres of space.
Things went from bad to worse for the Sinsheim-based visitors as the game wore on. Ozan Kabak received his marching orders for a second yellow-card offence when felling Ekitiké. Hoffenheim now trail 6th-place Frankfurt by seven points.
