Benedikt Höwedes is set to join Lokomotiv Moskva and is expected to complete his medical today or tomorrow, Schalke 04 sporting director Christian Heidel has told Bild.

The central defender has not traveled with the Schalke team to the club's training camp in Austria as the deal is imminent.

Schalke are expected to get €5 million plus bonuses for Höwedes. In addition to that, Bild reports that 'Die Königsblauen' will save just under €8 million in salary costs with the departure of Höwedes.

Höwedes, who won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, came through Schalke's youth academy and made his debut for the club in 2007. Since then, he has made 335 appearances in total for the Gelsekirchen side.
