Bundesliga Golden Boot race: Can Timo catch Robert?

With only five games left to play, the race for the golden boot is heating up. Timo Werner, with 25 goals, is still within striking distance of Robert Lewandowski and his 29 goals. Werner has addressed the tightly contested matter in the past.

"You can't score every game unless your name is Robert Lewandowski," Werner told reporters, as quoted by Bundesliga.com.

"When I score two in Berlin, he scores two against Dortmund, and I ask myself when he'll stop. He's currently in the same category as Ronaldo and Messi."

With four goals in his last three games, including a hat-trick against Mainz, Werner will need to find the form he showed earlier in the season. During a five game stretch between Matchdays 10-14, he scored nine goals.

Robert Lewandowski, with three goals in his last three games, is still striving to break Gerd Muller’s 40 goal record season set in 1972. Lewandowski understands the quality of the Leipzig attacker and the challenge that he presents. When asked his top five favorite strikers at the moment, Lewandowski responded,

"A difficult question. If we talk about [the number] nine, I would say: Karim Benzema, Timo Werner, Luis Suarez, Sergio Aguero and Kylian Mbappe." he told reporters, according to Goal.com.

It took Lewandowski eight games, Matchdays 1-8, earlier this season to match the 12 goals needed to break the record. Bayern finish the season against Wolfsburg and Lewandowski will be hoping he can replicate his special game against them from back in 2015 when he scored five goals in under nine minutes.
