Marco Reus missed most of the second half of the season due to a muscle injury - the latest in a career punctuated by spells on the sidelines.

In a recent interview with BVB TV, the 31-year-old has reflected on his injury problems.

"It's tough when you're injured. I don't think, 'OK, I'll be back in three months, and I have to do this and this'. I focus on each moment, on the next few days, to see how things develop. It's quite difficult during rehab, because you can feel a bit down," Reus said and added:

"You see your teammates training and playing, and you're happy when the team wins, but you know you weren't really a part of it, and that can get you down. You want to get back as quickly as possible, even though you know more rehab will be better for you going forward, and understanding that is difficult because you have to go through that mental process."

Reus wants to work his way back to full fitness for the start of the new season, so he can once again become a regular part of the starting eleven.

"When I know I'm feeling good, the problem has gone and I'm back in training and can cope with everything, I want to play my part. Hopefully, I can bring a different kind of energy to the team, being fresher than some of the players who have more games under their belts.

"I try to show the quality I have on the pitch, and hopefully I'll be able to do that next season. Time will tell, but I'm basically always trying to improve, to be better at the things I wasn't so good at in the past."
