Union Berlin came close to signing Harry Kane back in 2012, according to the club's former head of first team football Nico Schäfer.

But the current England captain, who was 18 years old and on loan at Milwall at the time, ultimately opted to stay in England.

"He was still a youth prospect. We talked to his club and spoke to his agent several times on the phone. Kane was supposed to play up front alongside Simon Terodde in the 2. Bundesliga," Schäfer told Sport Bild.

"What stood out was his heading ability and that he was a striker, who liked to run in behind. He would have been a very good fit for Union," he added.

Today, Kane has made a total of 336 appearances for Tottenham with 221 goals and 47 assists to his name.
