Lucas Alario has officially signed a contract extension with Bayer Leverkusen.

The 28-year-old forward's deal, which was due to expire in 2022, has been extended until 2024.

"We were of course aware beforehand how valuable Lucas is for Bayer 04, but his very good last season aroused the interest of other clubs. That's why we are very happy that we were able to extend the contract," commented Leverkusen head of sport Rudi Völler.

According to Kicker, Alario's contract extension means that Bayer Leverkusen will no longer pursue the possibility of signing Sardar Azmoun from Zenit.

Alario has scored a total of 51 goals in 131 appearances for 'Die Werkself'.
