SC Paderborn have been promoted to the Bundesliga for the third time in their history after a 2-1 extra-time play-off win over VfL Wolfsburg on Monday night.

Speaking after the match, Paderborn sporting managing director Sebastian Lange admitted that Joakim Mæhle’s sending-off after 14 minutes made things easier for the home side, but still found plenty of reason to praise the players after what he described as a “deserved” win.

“The way the match developed played a bit into our hands with the second yellow card,” Lange said, according to ran.

“But I have to say the lads really surpassed themselves today. How sharp we were, how quickly we moved the ball – everyone did really well.

“It was a great performance. That’s why it was deserved.”
