Borussia Mönchengladbach could face an uphill battle to keep hold of Ko Itakura this summer.

The Japanese centre-back has long been linked with a move away, and with his contract expiring in 2026, Die Fohlen may look to cash in on him at the end of the season.

Itakura is reportedly keen on a switch to the English Premier League, but Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven - long-time admirers of the defender - have not given up hope of landing him.

Speaking on Dutch broadcaster NOS's Studio Voetbal, PSV technical director Earnest Stewart confirmed he was in attendance for Gladbach’s 4-4 goal fest against Hoffenheim last weekend.

“I was in Gladbach,” Stewart said, before revealing that Itakura was among several players he was scouting.

“But that was one of the profiles we were looking at in the summer. So I had another look."
