FC Schalke 04 are considering making a move for Wout Weghorst in the summer, according to Voetbal International.

The 33-year-old former VfL Wolfsburg and Manchester United forward is out of contract with Ajax at the end of the season, meaning he will be available on a free transfer.

Twente and Benfica are also said to be interested in the Dutch veteran forward.

Schalke currently sit top of the 2. Bundesliga, and securing promotion would likely increase their chances of signing Weghorst.

The Royal Blues have been rewarded for their gamble on another aging forward, 40-year-old Edin Dzeko, during the winter. So far, the Bosnian forward has scored six goals in eight games for the club.
