Stuttgart hopeful of signing Nübel on permanent deal from Bayern

The 29-year-old is unlikely to have a future in Bavaria which could open the door for VfB to bring the goalkeeper permanently to the club.

Bayern Munich loanee Alexander Nübel has found his place VfB Stuttgart in recent seasons, but that could change in the summer if recent reports are to be believed.

With the Swabian club, the now 29-year-old has developed into one of the Bundesliga's finest goalkeepers and played a key role in the club's resurgence.

Although the shot-stopper is set to return to Munich after three years away on loan, BILD reports that Stuttgart believe they could keep Nübel long-term:

"Stuttgart is speculating that Bayern won't be able to offload him in the end, giving them a chance – at a package price that's acceptable to the club," writes the magazine.

The main sticking point preventing Stuttgart from buying him outright has been the goalkeeper's high salary, estimated at around €10-11million euros per year.

According to the loan agreement, Stuttgart currently only pays a third of the sum; Nübel continues to receive the remaining two thirds of his wages from Munich.

According to reports, talks between Bayern and Nübel are scheduled for spring, but despite his contract until 2023, a permanent return is unlikely.

With Jonas Urbig, who has already proven himself several times in Bayern's goal, the club already possesses the next designated successor to Neuer

World Cup winner Neuer doesn't seem too keen to hang up the boots anytime soon either – the 39-year-old could yet extend his contract with the German record champions.
