England U20 maintained their perfect start in the U20 Elite League with a comfortable victory over their French counterpart. Mikey Moore, who scored on his debut against Italy, added another goal to his collection in the fast start for Darren Moore’s side.
Shumaira Mheuka put England ahead with the sweeper goalkeeper Ollie Whatmuff providing the perfect assist before Moore doubled their advantage after a decent finish from the left flank inside the first 20 minutes. While Köln’s winger captained England, Wolfsburg defender Mathys Angely wore the armband for France.
Axel Tape, who is playing for Spanish side Levante on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, took over that responsibility after the break as coaches could make more than five substitutions in the U20 Elite League.
France halved the deficit in a heated second-half encounter as Angers forward Prosper Peter won and converted a penalty-kick. The World Cup semi-finalists lost both of their first games in this competition against Germany and England.
England U20 have highly-rated talents from some of the biggest Premier League clubs, including Liverpool’s midfielder Trey Nyoni, Everton’s fan favorite Harrison Armstrong and Manchester United’s Ayden Heaven and Shea Lacey.
They will end the international break with a game against Germany on October 3rd. Hannes Wolf’s side will play against Italy U20 later on Tuesday.
