Wolfsburg introduce Christiansen: "Peter stands for success."

Underneath a banner specifically welcoming him as the club's new top personnel manager, 49-year-old Danish footballing administrator Peter Christiansen discussed his plans for VfL Wolfsburg. The northern Autostädter were quick to organize a full media roll-out a few short days after departed managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer's new post at RB Leipzig was confirmed. Christiansen's appointment had been confirmed for some time, but he remained with FC Copenhagen until July 1st. 

Christiansen was flanked by board member Frank Witter, who explained that the two had made one another's acquaintance shortly after Wolfsburg secured safety on the antepenultimate match-day of the season. Several coffee-filed discussions in Hamburg followed. Despite the fact that higher profile names had been linked with Schäfer's position, Witter went for the man who helped FC Copenhagen, Randers FC, and AGF Aarhus achieve success. Christiansen didn't hesitate when Witter tendered the offer.

Wolfsburg confirmed that current sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz had extended his contract and would be remaining. Christiansen noted that he was pleased for the "hard-working" Schindzielorz, also emphasizing that he himself had "no free time" within his planned work regimen. Among the things Christiansen needed to do, per the executive himself, was learn German. Questions were fielded in English for the time being. Witter took time to insist that the language barrier didn't affect his decision. 

"Peter Christiansen stands for success," Witter noted at the introductory presser, "He burns for it. He represents the values of VfL. We haven't managed to bring consistency to our performances."
