Dortmund extend with Ryerson through 2029

Borussia Dortmund confirmed an early contract extension for Norwegian fullback Julian Ryerson on Thursday evening.

The versatile defensder has increased his estimated market worth five-fold since joining BVB from Union 18 months ago.

Flexible Norwegian fullback Julian Ryerson has extended his Borussia Dortmund contract. Since joining BVB as something of a surprise transfer in the January 2022 transfer window, the 26-year-old has made 62 appearances for die Schwarzgelben. He's scored five goals, including a famously memorable one against Hoffenheim early last season and another gem in the 2-0 win over Bayern that ended his team's long winless run against the record champs.

Dortmund confirmed Ryerson's new deal - which shall run through 2029 - just two days before he is scheduled to visit his old Bundesliga club, 1. FC Union Berlin. Ryerson - having started all competitive fixtures for Dortmund this year - will likely be in the starting XI against Bo Svensson's Eisern Union. The 26-times-capped international was linked with moves to Premiership sides last season.

“Julian has become an internal part of our team both on and off the pitch," BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl noted in a statement, "Not everyone probably expected this development after his transfer, but we knew from the start that Julian, would be an excellent fit for BVB and our values. He fully identifies with this club and, with his versatile profile, gives us various options in terms of sport. We are very happy to have Julian with us for the next four years.”

"Just like in the beginning, I'm happy to be here," the player himself noted in his own statement, "I'm still proud and humbled to be part of this club. And I'm just happy that I can continue to play for Borussia Dortmund. I feel comfortable here and enjoy every match day, especially when we play at home.”
