The Swedish international played over 150 games for the Superliga side. With his favorite number taken by Ramy Bensebaini, he will wear number 24 at his new club.

The Algerian will also be his competitor for a starting spot in the second half of the season. Dortmund secure an “option to buy” to permanently sign the 23-year-old for €6-7 million in the summer.

Svensson made his Sweden debut in the closing stages of a UEFA Nations League win over Estonia in October. In addition to the much-needed depth at left-back, Dortmund could also benefit from the fact that he can play as a midfielder.

Sebastian Kehl singled out Svensson’s physical attribute as his strongest point. “Daniel is an up-and-coming defender with real physical strength who will make us more solid and increase our depth in defense,” says Dortmund’s sporting director.

Svensson looks forward to joining his new teammates. “After my first game for Sweden, joining a top European club is another fantastic step in my career,” says the Stockholm native.
