Germany and Ukraine ends goalless in Nürnberg

The first-half of action passed by relatively quickly in what was an exciting but ultimately goalless sequence of events. Ukraine started well with Mudryk's opening shot blocked well by Waldemar Anton. Germany enjoyed spells of possession thereafter and skipper Ilkay Gündoğan came close. The midfielder's effort lacked any real purchase as Trubin gathered.
Momentum continued to favour Die Mannschaft as the Bayern duo of Kimmich and Musiala almost combined with Pascal Groß. The ex-Ingolstadt player couldn't hit the net. The last chance before the break required the interventions of Manuel Neuer. Tsygankov won the aerial battle with Tah, breaking the ball for Yaremchuk who forced the German shot-stopper to act.
Julian Nagelsmann opted to freshen things up after the interval as Undav and Führich replaced Wirtz and Gündoğan. The Stuttgart striker almost had an instant impact but for Svatok's vital block. Further subs rolled on in the form of Thomas Müller, Maxi Beier, and Robin Koch. On his international bow, Beier was denied by the width of the aluminium. His powerful drive ripped past Trubin but met the post.
German dominance continued in spite of the fresh Ukrainian legs off the bench. Beier continued to threaten as time wore on. However, the inspired form of Trubin in the Ukrainian goal remained defiant. Twice the Benfica club man kept out the best efforts of Stuttgart pair Undav and Führich. Ex-BVB man Andrey Yarmolenko tested Neuer again as the clock struck 90 minutes. A last-gasp German break led by Undav yielded nothing in a scoreless stalemate.
