Alexander Nübel was absent through illness as VfB Stuttgart's hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the Champions League were crushed by a 4-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

The Swabians will now look to bounce back when they host Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Saturday, and it looks like Nübel will be back in the starting line-up.

“Alex Nübel did a fitness test yesterday and the outcome was positive,” revealed Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeness at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

"We're expecting Alex to train today, and if he does, he'll start in goal."

Stuttgart will be without Atakan Karazor and Jeff Chabot, both suspended, while Justin Diehl, Luca Raimund, El Bilal Touré and Dan-Axel Zagadou are all injured.
