A month ago, it was confirmed that Borussia Mönchengladbach captain Rocco Reitz will join RB Leipzig in the summer.

The move hasn't gone down well with Gladbach fans, who displayed banners opposing Reitz during last week’s 1-0 defeat to Leipzig, with one stating that they do not want him to be their captain.

Despite the backlash, the midfielder will keep the responsibility for the rest of the season, Gladbach coach Eugen Polanski confirmed to Bild.

"Rocco was elected before the season by the team. And he is a good captain – he leads from the front, not just on the pitch. And Rocco will continue to do that in the last five games,” Polanski said.

“They (the fans) also have to understand that we do not base such decisions on banners like these.”

Next up for Gladbach is Sunday's game against Mainz.
