Kicker Report: Kiel and St. Pauli hopeful of retaining Rothe and Kemlein

Two recently promoted Bundesliga sides are, according to Germany's preeminent footballing publication, hoping to retain key players currently serving on loan from top tier clubs. 

Recently promoted Bundesliga side Holstein Kiel are reportedly attempting to retain the services of BVB loanee Tom Rothe. Since joining the Storks on loan last summer, the 19-year-old has thrived as a wingback for the Schleswig-Holstein-based club. Rothe has scored three goals and chipped in nine assists in 32 league appearances for Kiel this season. 

Kiel are already set to lose their captain Philipp Sander to Borussia Mönchengladbach ahead of next season. Rothe brings with him the experience of four Bundesliga deployments. The Germany U21 international garnered an assist for Edin Terzic's BVB last year. He scored a goal in his Bundesliga debut under BVB head-coach Marco Rose against Wolfsburg in 2022.

Rothe's current estimated market worth has risen to €6 million in the latest transfermarkt update. It is such that, according to Germany's Kicker Magazine, Kiel are seeking a renewed loan deal. Dortmund may nevertheless be interested in bringing him back to help shore up the left back position. 

Kicker also news to report on the 2024/25 Bundesliga's other promoted club. FC St. Pauli remain eminently satisfied with the work of 19-year-old midfielder Aljoscha Kemlein. The teenage talent joined the Kiekicker on loan from 1. FC Union Berlin during the most recent January transfer window.

Kremlin has already garnered two league assists in 16 appearances. The Berlin-native has also made two top-tier appearances for Union, also featuring once in the Pokal and Champions' League. Kicker quotes St.Pauli manager Andreas Bornemann as saying that talks with Union are planned after the season.
