Nagelsmann on the battle for Germany's striker spot: "The roles are clear"

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Germany's final Euro 2024 warm-up friendly against Greece, Julian Nagelsmann discussed the battle for the starting berth up front between Kai Havertz and Niclas Füllkrug.

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has made it clear that Kai Havertz will be the starting striker at Euro 2024.

However, the 36-year-old also stressed that the Arsenal forward will have to perform to keep Borussia Dortmund's Niclas Füllkrug behind him in the pecking order.

"We are happy that Füllkrug is back. It's good that we have another natural striker in the squad," Nagelsmann told reporters ahead of Friday's warm-up friendly against Greece.

"The roles are clear. If Kai performs, he's a bit ahead. He has to perform. Fülle will get his playing time and will score goals and cause excitement."

Also at the press conference, Kai Havertz spoke about the competition with Füllkrug.

“We get along very well. Healthy competition is always part of it, we both have different qualities. For us it's about putting our egos aside and putting ourselves at the service of the team,” said Havertz.

24-year-old Havertz has scored 15 goals in 45 matches for Germany.
