When asked about his fondest memory from his time at the club, Grosskreutz highlighted the Bundesliga triumph in 2011.
"It was crazy, especially considering we alle came from the 2. Bundesliga. Nobody expected us to become German champions. When I look back at it now, it just makes me happy. Nobody can take that from me, and I don't miss it - but I'm proud of it," he told Sport1.
Today, Grosskreutz plays for KFC Uerdingen 05 in the 3. Liga, but he remains in touch with his friends from his glorious days at Dortmund.
"Of course I'm still in contact with the guys and with Hans-Joachim Watzke (Dortmund's CEO) as well. We've been through a lot together, so you can't just lose contact like that. It's no secret that it's my club, and I'll always be loyal to it," Grosskreutz said before revealing whom he considers his best friend among the current Dortmund players:
"My little friend Shinji Kagawa. I hope that he will somehow play on Saturday, because he's quite good in derbies."
Borussia Dortmund will face Schalke 04 in the Revierderby at Veltins-Arena today at 15.30 (UTC+1).
