Wolfsburg updates: Paredes and Franjic likely out for the year, Kruse scheduled for MRI

As one of the Bundesliga's most in-form teams prepares for the final packed schedule before the World Cup break, two players look to be unavailable for the final three league games.

There's also some new news on a potential injury affecting the future playing career of exiled squad player Max Kruse.

Niko Kovac's VfL Wolfsburg, presently on a six-match unbeaten run dubbed the "Golden October" in the German press, are likely to be without attacker Kevin Paredes and midfield anchor Bartol Franjic for the final three games. Both players are struggling with calf injuries that require additional healing time.

American teenage talent Paredes earned his first Bundesliga start some two weeks ago. Unfortunately, the 19-year-old was relegated to the sidelines for the VfL's 4-0 win over Bochum last week. Franjic has made a total of three starts for "die Wölfe" this season, playing less of a role in the squad after Kovac began relying solely on captain Maximilian Arnold to run his 4-1-4-1/5-4-1.

Max Kruse's status as a non-active club player has not changed, but there is nevertheless some injury news that may affect the 34-year-old's future playing prospects in the new calendar year. Kruse, in typical Kruse fashion, is currently in the Czech Republic participating in a poker tournament.

The German veteran announced via his instagram feed that he has been having some muscular issues and is scheduled for an MRI when he returns to the Bundesrepublik. Kruse has been adamant about his desire to continue playing, preferably in the Bundesliga. Rumors linking the journeyman with a move to America's MLS have also cropped up.
