Schalke 04 striker Mark Uth has urged the club to 'act on the transfer market' after their winless streak in the Bundesliga extended to 30 games with a 3-0 defeat to Hertha BSC on Saturday.

"We absolutely need players, who can help us immediately," Uth told reporters after the game.

After watching his team suffer a clear loss in his first game in charge, Schalke coach Christian Gross acknowledged the need for new signings as well, but he also said a lack of financial resources is making the recruitment process very difficult for the club's head of sport, Jochen Schneider.

"Jochen Schneider is trying to do the impossible. I very much hope that we succeed in signing a few players with personality, who don't need to be developed first," said Gross.

Schalke are rock bottom of the Bundesliga with just four points after 14 games.
