Mainz 05 have completed the signing of South Korean international Hyunseok Hong.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder joins the Bundesliga club from KAA Gent on a contract until 2028.

“Hyunseok Hong is a technically gifted, creative and goal-scoring attacking midfielder who can play in a variety of positions,” said Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel.

"You could be forgiven for thinking that running is his great passion: in matches, he regularly makes yards for his teams, making him a perfect fit for our run-heavy game.

"With his friendly manner, he will be an instant hit in the dressing room."

Hyunseok Hong commented:

"It is a dream come true for me to play in the Bundesliga, one of the biggest leagues in the world.

Of course, I spoke to Jae-sung Lee before the transfer and he was very happy for me and gave me a warm welcome here in Mainz. As a player, I'm known for my running ability - I'm most comfortable as a playmaker with the ball at my feet.

“I'm really looking forward to the next step in my career in Mainz and the Mainz fans, who I've been told are great.”
