St. Pauli boss Blessin shuts down Eintracht Frankfurt links

Speculation linking Alexander Blessin with the vacant head coach position at Eintracht Frankfurt gathered pace in recent days, but the FC St. Pauli boss was quick to shut down the talk when asked directly after Friday night’s derby against Hamburger SV.

After FC St. Pauli’s 0-0 draw with Hamburger SV on Friday, head coach Alexander Blessin made it clear he had no interest in talking about reported links to Eintracht Frankfurt, who are currently searching for a successor to recently departed trainer Dino Toppmöller.

Asked at the Sky microphone about speculation that Eintracht officials view him as a potential candidate for their managerial vacancy, the 52-year-old reacted with a mix of humor and exasperation: “Please, please, let us talk about something else - but we don’t need to talk about something like that.”

Blessin had emerged in recent media reports as one of several names floated for the Eintracht job with sources suggesting Frankfurt have narrowed their list to three to four options as they look to appoint a permanent coach. Alongside Blessin, Marco Rose remains a “hot candidate” due to his extensive Bundesliga experience with Borussia Mönchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, though any move for the former RB Leipzig boss would likely involve a compensation fee.

Also said to be under consideration is Kjetil Knutsen, the long-serving FK Bodø/Glimt manager whose side recently caused a surprise win against Manchester City in European competition.

For now, however, Blessin’s focus remains very much on St. Pauli’s Bundesliga battle. His curt dismissal of the speculation immediately after a hard-fought derby underscores just how tiring such rumors can be, especially in the middle of a demanding season.

Eintracht, meanwhile, are scheduled to hand interim boss Dennis Schmitt his Bundesliga debut today, as the club continues its own search for stability.
