Rangnick reportedly "the big favorite" for Bayern job

TZ reports that Ralf Rangnick is now the leading candidate for the job as Bayern Munich coach.

With Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann out of the running, Ralf Rangnick has emerged as the frontrunner for the Bayern Munich job.

That's according to Munich-based newspaper TZ, who reports that the 65-year-old Austria coach is "the big favorite".

If Bayern get the green light from Rangnick, "everything can be finalized this week," the report says.

Apparently, Rangnick has a big advocate at Bayern, namely former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who still has a big say at the club.

The plan is for the former RB Leipzig boss to take over after the European Championship. Although about two weeks ago he made it sound as if he wanted to stay on as Austria coach.

"I feel comfortable here. I have a contract until 2026. Our goal and our path will continue after the Euros," the German coach said at an event.

TZ names Birghton & Hove Albion manager Robert De Zerbi as the main alternative. The Italian coach would cost €14 million and would bring a large and expensive coaching staff with him. He also doesn't speak German.

Meanwhile, Sky Germany reports that Thomas Tuchel is not completely opposed to staying on as head coach beyond the summer, should the Bayern bosses change their mind about his future.

However, some people in charge are against keeping him and have ruled out his scenario, the report also claims.
