A minute after Farid Alfa-Ruprecht’s disallowed goal, Bochum took the lead as Philipp Hofmann headed home from Maximilian Wittek’s inviting delivery. In a night they honored the versatile Felix Passlack, who has left the club to join Hibernian, the left-back produced a superb assist.
Bochum squandered further chances to extend their lead before Norman Bassette puts the visitors level before half-time. The Coventry City loanee scored in back-to-back away games after the end of his unfruitful spell in Ligue 2 with Stade Reims.
Kaiserslautern registered their first away victory since matchday nine when they beat Preußen Münster a fortnight ago, and they were on their way to add another three points with the captain leading by example early in the second-half.
Marlon Ritter’s ambitious attempt at a Dennis Bergkamp turn resulted in a goal, largely due to Francis Onyeka’s poor defending. However, the hosts regained their lead with two quickfire goals after the hour mark.
Moments after Naatan Skyttä’s goal for Kaiserslautern was cancelled for offside, substitute Callum Marshall made it 2-2 with his first strike since finding the net in his 2. Bundesliga debut. The in-form Japanese international Koji Miyoshi provided the assist with a delightful bit of precise play.
Kaiserslautern’s suspended coach Torsten Lieberknecht would then watch his side throw away their advantage from the stands. Mats Pannewig, who will miss next weekend’s game against Hertha due to accumulated yellow cards, was the matchwinner as he pounced on from the far post after a well-taken set-piece play.
Marshall missed a glorious chance to seal the win in injury-time, but Skyttä was unable to punish him at the other end. Bochum are back in the top half of the standings after ending their four-game winless run. Kaiserslautern are 11 points behind the promotion playoff spot following back-to-back defeats.
